This is the same monthly habit tracker format we print inside Scribpal planners, released as a free PDF. One page tracks up to eleven habits across a full month. Write your habits down the left, tick a box each day you follow through, and by the end of the month you can see your consistency at a glance, including the gaps.
We make notebooks and planners for a living, so this tracker is built the way a printed page should be: clean grid lines that survive a home printer, enough writing space in each row, and no ink-heavy decoration that empties your cartridge by February.
What is a habit tracker?
A habit tracker is a simple grid: habits down one side, days of the month across the top. Each day you complete a habit, you mark the box. That is the whole system, and that simplicity is why it works. The chain of marked boxes becomes something you do not want to break, and the empty boxes tell you honestly where a habit is failing instead of letting you guess.
Paper trackers have one advantage no app can copy: they sit in front of you. Stuck on a wall, clipped into a planner, or on your desk, the tracker reminds you by existing. An app has to fight through every other notification on your phone.
How to use this habit tracker
- Print the tracker. A4 for a wall or desk, A5 if you want it inside a planner or diary. Greyscale printing is fine, the layout is pure black on white.
- Write the month at the top and tick the month checkbox in the corner grid.
- List three to five habits. Not eleven. The rows are there when you are ready, but almost everyone who starts with ten habits abandons the tracker by week two. Start small, add later.
- Make each habit specific. "Exercise" fails. "Walk 20 minutes after dinner" works, because you always know whether you did it.
- Mark the box the moment you finish the habit, not at night from memory. The mark itself is a small reward, and it is the part that builds the loop.
- At the end of the month, count each row. Anything above roughly 80 percent is a habit becoming automatic. Anything under half needs to be made smaller or dropped. Then print a fresh page and start the next month.
How many habits should you track?
Three to five. The research on habit formation is consistent that new habits compete with each other for the same limited attention, and stacking too many at once is the most common reason trackers get abandoned. A good starting spread covers one health habit, one work or study habit, and one habit you are trying to remove, written as its positive opposite: "no phone after 11pm" rather than "stop doomscrolling".
A4 or A5: which should you print?
A4 gives you bigger boxes and is the right choice if the tracker lives on a wall, a fridge, or a desk where you will see it from a distance.
A5 is half the size and matches the page size of our planners, so it slips neatly inside one, or into most diaries and organisers. If you already use a Scribpal undated daily planner, the A5 version fits it exactly.
Both files print on any home or shop printer. Choose "Fit to page" in your print settings and you cannot go wrong.
Paper tracker or digital?
Honest answer from a paper company: both have a place. Paper wins for daily visibility and for the small satisfaction of physically marking a box. Digital wins for trends over time, automatic streak counts, and graphs. That is why we built both. If you want the digital half, our free Excel habit tracker uses the same format with automatic progress graphs and streak tracking, and works in Google Sheets too, no macros or add-ons required.
Tired of printing every month?
If the tracker sticks, the printed page eventually becomes the limitation. Our undated daily planners have the habit tracker built into every month alongside daily to-do lists, water and sleep tracking, all on 80 GSM paper with a proper binding, from Rs 299 with delivery across India. And if your habit is reflection rather than routine, the Scribpal gratitude journal pairs naturally with any tracker on this page.
Frequently asked questions
Is this habit tracker really free?
Yes. No email, no signup, no watermark across the grid. Print unlimited copies for personal use. Teachers and coaches are welcome to print it for a class or group.
Can I share this tracker with others?
Yes, share the PDF or a printed copy freely. If you share it online, we would appreciate a link back to this page rather than re-uploading the file elsewhere, so people always get the latest version.
What size is the tracker?
Two versions: A4 (210 x 297 mm) for standard printing, and A5 (148 x 210 mm) which matches Scribpal planner pages. Both are landscape.
Does it work for any month?
Yes. The grid covers 31 days and the month is written in by hand, so the same page works for any month of any year. For February, ignore the last two or three columns.
Can I use it without colour ink?
Yes. The tracker is pure black on white and is designed to print cleanly in greyscale.
